While the world is coming to understand and embrace the concept of fitness and physical exercise, many Indian women remain excluded from this space for many reasons. This is something Sonia Singh Gurjar is passionately striving to change as a champion of women’s fitness and exercise. An athlete and yoga instructor, Sonia abides by a healthy and inspiring lifestyle, seeking to share it with women everywhere. Sonia Singh Gurjar’s journey into the world of fitness began four years ago, driven by a pressing need to address her health. Diagnosed with obesity, pre-diabetes, and thyroid issues, Sonia realised that work, money, and everything else could wait but her health could no longer be neglected. And so began the arduous journey to getting fit, but she was determined - nothing would stop her here onwards.

Along with changing her diet and lifestyle, Sonia found refuge in running. Eventually, running was not just an exercise but a passion that she promised to pursue wholeheartedly. And she did. She began participating in marathons and gradually strengthened herself physically and mentally. It’s been over four years and within this course, Sonia has garnered over 50 medals as an experienced marathon runner.

Along with marathons, she understood the importance of pausing, being aware of each breath, each movement - thus resulting in her foray into yoga as well. It was a mammoth task - prioritising her fitness journey amidst being a single parent and full-time professional. But Sonia’s journey is proof that women are born multitaskers - she faced each challenge head-on and managed to successfully juggle her tasks, prioritising each one at the right time.

She takes inspiration from a quote her mother passed on to her, “Sab acha ho jayega ek din (Everything will be alright one day)”. Despite life’s many challenges, Sonia takes them in stride as she is confident that everything will work out eventually. A genteel yet wholly determined person, her fitness journey resonates with many, proving that with determination and resilience, it is possible to overcome any challenge.

Sonia’s story is a reminder that fitness is a journey, not a destination, and that every step taken towards better health is a victory in itself. Unstoppable Sonia Singh Gurjar continues to inspire countless women, showing them that they too can achieve their fitness goals and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

On my Vision Board: To see women making fitness and exercise a key aspect of their lives.

What inspires me: Two beautiful daughters who look up to their mother as a role model.

Awards and accolades: Ambassador for various marathons.

Words of wisdom for future women leaders: Sacrifice will play a pivotal part in your journey - but that is what will make you a leader.

Lady-boss inspiration: Sudha Murthy

My favorite travel itinerary: Manali

Biggest money lesson I live by: Money is required for survival and isn’t the most important thing in life - don’t waste your life by simply chasing money.

What makes me unstoppable: Mom’s words, “Sab achchha ho jayega ek din”.
