Badhaai Ho is the story of a middle age couple, Priyambada Kaushik (Neena Gupta) and Jeetender Kaushik (Gajraj Rao), who unexpectedly finds themselves pregnant and all hell breaks loose! The fact that they belong to a middle-class Lodhi Colony of Delhi, with grown-up children does little to help. What unfolds is a struggle by the children, Nakul (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Gullar (Shardul Rana), to accept that their parents still have sex. This deeply affects their equation with their parents and creep into their personal and professional lives.

While Priyambada struggles with the morality of abortion, Jeetender plays the part of the supportive partner. The situation is made more intense with the presence of a flummoxed grandmother-to-be Surekha Sikhri.  The main motivation of this Amit Sharma movie is normalising society's perception of late pregnancy. This is put across when Sanya Malhotra's Rene is confused about Nakul's perception of married life in the 40s and 50s. If you are or know someone going through pangs of a late pregnancy, these are pointers to take home from the movie.

1. Emotional Stability

You are in a better place emotionally having lived through life and already through with the confusing 20's and professional struggle of 30's.

2. Make Fewer Mistakes

Let's accept it. No parent is perfect! You probably have had children before and you know the mistakes you have made with them. This knowledge with added maturity helps you make fewer mistakes with your newest munchkin.

3. Give Your Child More Time

You are done with the extra time at the office to get that promotion and probably nearing retirement. You can devote more time to this new addition to your family and catch up on all their milestones, something you probably missed with your older children.

4. You Can Turn a Deaf Ear to the Society

With greater age, you understand "kuch toh log kahenge" better and can turn a deaf ear to all the useless advice and criticism alike. You are no more overwhelmed with all the information and parenting tips you are flooded with. You can stand by your decision just like Priyambada and Jeetender.

5. Older Siblings to Take Care

If you are worried about the generation gap, do not worry for your older children will love and guide the new child with all their heart. The age difference will make the older siblings the perfect guide and friend to help their young sibling in all their pursuits.

Badhaai Ho is a family watch for everyone to enjoy. The situational humour is sharp and keeps you engaged. The use of music is genius and adds to the comedy. The performances of the superb cast are flawless and convincing. The various flavours of Delhi are portrayed with all authenticity and deserve applause. The movie is superbly executed within its limited scope and becomes an enjoyable depiction of love and liberalism. Liked the content? Follow "The Woo Mag"
